The Best Trail Running Vacations for 2027: Find Your Runcation

The Best Trail Running Vacations for 2027: Find Your Runcation

Looking for a guided trail running vacation for 2027? Whether you want a family running trip that includes on-site childcare, a hut-to-hut adventure across three countries, a classic Tour du Mont Blanc, or a long weekend in California's Eastern Sierra — our 2027 calendar has a trip built for how you love to run.

Runcation Travel has been designing small-group trail running vacations since 2017, and 2027 is our biggest calendar yet: trips across the Alps, the Dolomites, the Balkans, the Pyrenees, Patagonia, and California. Groups stay small (usually 8–14 runners), routes are curated by trail runners and locals who've spent years running them, and every trip is built around a specific region so you actually get to know where you are.

Here's how to find your fit.

Booking now? Our early-bird pricing is the best rate of the year, and prices go up January 1, 2027.

What is a trail running vacation?

A trail running vacation is a guided small-group trip built around running scenic trails — typically 4 to 8 days, with a mix of daily runs, cultural experiences, local food, and comfortable lodging (or, on hut-to-hut trips, traditional alpine huts and rifugios). It's different from a running camp, where the focus is training; the focus of a trail running vacation is the experience — the place, the people, the trails, the food, the recovery.

At Runcation, all our guided trail running trips are carefully designed by our team. Groups are small so no one gets lost in the shuffle, and each trip is designed so you can spend your energy running instead of planning logistics.

For the running fam

Family trail running vacations with on-site childcare — Swiss Alps or Italian Dolomites

Our Family Runcations with Childcare are the first trail running vacations to include on-site professional childcare. Mornings out on trail for the parents, afternoons together as a family — no compromise between the running vacation you want and the family time you love.

After our inaugural Swiss trip sold out in 2026 and ran with families from four countries, we're back with two trips for 2027:

  • Swiss Family Runcation with Childcare — July 11–16, 2027

  • Dolomites Family Runcation with Childcare — July 25–30, 2027 (nearly full — a few spots left)

From a family who ran our first one:

"We had an incredible time and loved each day of the trip. We were so grateful to be able to do a trip that included our kids and was designed for both them as kids and us as trail running parents. 12/10 — incredible trip." — Christy B.

Multi-day trail running vacations in the Alps: the Tour du Mont Blanc

The Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) is one of the most iconic multi-day trail runs in the world — 100+ miles through France, Italy, and Switzerland, circling the Mont Blanc massif. There’s a reason why it’s on everyone’s bucket list.

Our guided Tour du Mont Blanc trip stays in a mixture of comfortable hotels and traditional mountain huts along the route, so you can put your energy into the running instead of logistics. Ideal for runners comfortable with big back-to-back days on runnable mountain terrain.

For the adventurer

Hut-to-hut and guesthouse-to-guesthouse trail running trips — a.k.a. summer camp for adults

If you loved summer camp as a kid — the bunk-room laughs, the shared-table dinners, the whole "we're in this together" energy — a hut-to-hut trail running trip or a guesthouse-to-guesthouse Runcation is going to feel like home.

You run trail to trail during the day and sleep somewhere new each night — a mountain rifugio perched above the clouds, a family-run guesthouse in a village accessible only by foot or trail, a wooden hut with wildflowers out the window and a shared table for dinner. No two nights the same. No luggage to schlep between hotels. Just you, the trail, and a small group of other trail runners who get why you signed up for this.

It really is the closest thing to summer camp we've found — except with better food, harder runs, and no bug juice.

We've got four hut-to-hut and guesthouse-to-guesthouse trips on the 2027 calendar so you can pick the region that speaks to you:

  • Peaks of the Balkans Trail Run — June 27 – July 3, 2027 (guesthouse to guesthouse across Kosovo, Albania, and Montenegro)

  • Dolomites Hut-to-Hut — July 10–16, 2027 (rifugio to rifugio in the heart of the Italian Dolomites)

  • Dolomites Hut-to-Hut — July 17–23, 2027 (second Dolomites Hut-to-Hut date — same route, different week)

  • Tour du Mont Blanc - June 27-July 5 and Sep 3-11, 2027

If you've never done a hut-to-hut trip before, this is the trip type our returners tell us most changed how they think about running vacations.

A California trail running vacation in the Eastern Sierra

Not every great trail running vacation requires a transatlantic flight. Our Yosemite + Mammoth Lakes Runcation is a long weekend in the Eastern Sierra — Runcation's home range — with high-altitude trail runs, alpine lakes, and hot spring soaks.

Perfect for U.S.-based runners who want the Runcation experience without the flight to Europe, or a first-time Runcation runner looking for a taste before committing to a longer international trip.

Trail running retreats with rest, dinners in town, and lots of spa time built in

Some of us like our trail miles paired with a proper long lunch, an afternoon spa session, or a swim in a glacial lake. These trips are the ones for you — beautiful running, but with real downtime to enjoy where you are. We have one ranging from Level 1 to Level 2/3 depending on how much running you want to do in the week.

  • All Levels Cortina Dolomites — September 5–10, 2027 (a mixed-pace group — great for a first-time Runcation runner or someone traveling with a different-paced partner)

  • South Tyrol Dolomites + Slovenia — June 20–26, 2027

  • Patagonia Runcation — January and February 2027 (two dates available — the perfect winter trail running vacation for U.S. and European runners chasing endless summer)
